Here I sat. Not but one day after turning 14. My Grandfather lay in the other room. His fight with cancer had became progressively worse until the point of need to hospitalized. And here I sat, with my cousin by my side. Both of of us joking and having a merry time, besides the fact that we were crumpling on the inside.
Here I sat. By his bedside as he lay unconscious, my hero, the impenetrable wall of strength and knowledge, who I would later base most of myself off of. He was waking, still holding on, for only because of my Grandmother, his love. And for his family, because we still needed him.
There he lay. In a room spartan save medical instruments and a few chairs. The room was white and sterile, love and emotions choked on its pure air. My passions died slowly along with him.
Here we all stood. Tears and sorrow, yet not letting it be seen for him. I approach him and tell him "I love you, and I will miss you Grampy." He rolls eyes. Almost saying "Come on now. You'll see me later"
Here we now all stand hand in hand over the ground which shall take him. Never had it known such a brave man. Never again shall it experience the soldier, the father, the grandpa that was him.
Here I now stand turning my life for the better. Joining a cause worth fighting for and having the love of my life right here for me. I take his words and shall always be good. But shall never return to those white sterile halls. For they choke us all.
